Is there a secret to healthy parenting? The "secret" is that effective parents give kids what they need, rather than what they want. Knowing what kids need is the start and in order to raise emotionally and relationally healthy kids, parents need to better understand who a child is and what tools are most effective in raising a responsible kid.For instance, there are many ways to build self esteem in children. Healthy self esteem will help a child feel lovable and capable and provide a foundation for healthier adult experiences and relationships. Knowing how to effectively build high self esteem in kids may be a challenge for many parents. And becoming more aware of common challenges like overindulgence and less than healthy communication can help parents focus on healthier approaches. Finding healthier ways to communicate will not only build high self esteem in kids, but also strengthen relationships. Every relationship a child experiences, impacts who that child becomes. Recent research on the human brain has provided startling evidence that each interaction with a child and his or her relationships in general, affect that child's actual brain development. Most parenting information misses a big piece of the effective parenting picture, and hence can only offer hit-and-miss strategies. Before deciding what parenting tools are most effective, parents need to know who a child is, his or her temperament, stage of development, maturity level, personality, and social connections to then begin to work on effective tools.
